Many may know I have been away for a while now and may not have heard from me in some time.. . I have started travelling with Crhistian , a Colombian guy moving to Australia and seeing as I convinced him to leave from Buenos Aires we will be travelling from Colombia to Buenos Aires.. I have been very slack in writing anything down so as Crhistian has a blog, I thought I would write an English part to it..
My trip started in San Francisco California, from there I went to Costa Rica which was OK, then to Nicaragua which was incredible! Did some good hikes and too many good parties... Then Shippy (a mate from Adelaide) called me and said he was going to be in Boulder for a few days.. As my mate Will and Tim also live there it seemed too good opportunity not to go so a few days spent on Wills floor as he was getting ready for the Tour of California and a good mountain bike ride with Shippy and it was off to New York to see the family then to Bogota, Colombia..
Landing in Bogota was surreal almost as all I had heard from my family, friends parents etc was that Colombia was one of the most dangerous places you can go and that I was crazy.. So as you can imagine, I was a apprehensive.
I had been lucky in the fact that I had seen an advert on Craigslist which had a room for $10us a night so at least I had somewhere to go at 11PM at night when my flight landed. I met my new flatmates Douglas an American guy teaching English and Crhistian a Colombian student who had just finished his internship with one of the major political parties. After exploring the city for a few days my thoughts of Colombia had definitely changed.. (the funniest thing is everyone said I would get robbed in Colombia and yes I was robbed by the American who had the apartment.. He left the apartment while we were away and took my money and clothes) Beautiful colonial buildings and the setting of the city in the mountains is incredible.. As Crhistian was returning home for a week, I thought I would join him and check out his town.
From Bucaramanga I went to Santa Marta where I saw Aaron and we did the Lost City Trek.. Incredible! A gruelling 3 day hike to get to this old indigenous town.. And we were the only people there.. It was pretty special and worth the 1700 steps to get to the top.. If anyone is interested google Ciudad Perdida..
From there it was back to Bucaramanga where I had to await my replacement passport after an unfortunate incident with Crhistians mother, my passport and a washing machine.. After I received that and some sad goodbyes to my new friends, it was due South.. first to Bogota where we caught up with my new friend Juan Freak Guiterezz, and his family. We shared good pizza, good coffee and a few laughs before heading to the airport for our flight to Pasto on the border with Ecuador...
